Concerning God's People's Speaking The Same Things
1 Cor 1:10 (and context) 1-18
Introduction:
A. The goal that every Christian MUST sincerely aim for and earnestly
strive toward is expressed in 1 Cor 1:10. This is a goal just as Hebrews
12:14 is an unattained aim or purpose. Paul speaks very eloquently of this
goal of being Christ like in Phil 3:7-14.
B. Robert Browning expressed it well when he said, "Ah, but a man’s
reach should exceed his grasp, Or what’s heaven for?" If Paul had to
write, "Not though I had already attained, either were already made
perfect," I know that I have the "mark" or goal far ahead of me and likely
you do too.
C. If we would "win Christ," must earnestly and everlasting1y strive to
attain unto the mark, though it’s far ahead and very much higher than we
ever in performance attain in this life.
I.
Several Fundamental And Indispensable Things Required
A. Sincere, honest investigation of ourselves - 2 Cor. 13:5
B. That we be not only willing but eager to confess our faults one to
another - Jas 5:16
C. Vision that comes with faith - Gal 5:6; 2 Cor 4:16-5:10; 1 Jn
3:2-3
II.
Must Follow God's Instruction
A. Speak as oracles of God - 1 Pet 4:11
1. Be silent until know what God says in every passage on the
subject
2. Need to apply 1 Cor. 8:2 to ourselves
B. If wait until know we know all that God says on subject
1. Would be eager to consent to wholesome words
2. Would fulfill 1 Cor 1:10
a. Would prevent fruitless arguments
b. Would bring about unity - Eph 4:1-3
C. Not only prevent division among us but help world to believe God
the Father sent Jesus Christ the Lord - Jn 17:17-21
III.
Many Try To Discredit Truth
A. Leaders in past try to discredit the facts and truths of the Bible
1. If the Old Testament is false, Jesus Christ is a liar and an
imposter.
B. Leaders of today try to discredit the facts and truths of the
Bible
1. "Scientists have wondered for a long time how the sun and the
planets were formed and several hypotheses have been suggested through
the years." (Modern Science Textbook, 1977)
2. They do not believe the Bible do they?
3. If evolution is according to irrefutable facts, the Bible is a
big lie, and is not the Word of God
Conclusion:
A. Pilate said of Jesus: "Why, What evil has He done?" (Mk. 15:14).
What evil has the teaching of the Bible ever done in this world? I
challenge anybody to name one evil thing caused by Bible teaching!
B. The divisions and dissension that we see in the religious world and
the church are not caused by the Bible, but rather by men who don't
believe the Bible.
C. Yet NOBODY has proved any of the Bible to be false!
