A Herald At The Royal Court
Mark 16:15

Introduction:

A. Jesus gave His apostles instructions to "go PREACH the gospel". The word describes one who would herald or proclaim an announcement publicly about something of royal decree. As such, the person was required to possess certain qualities of character.

B. Two of the traits that were required were honesty and integrity. These were necessary as a protection against the exaggeration of a royal decree. The herald was not allowed to change the decree in any fashion.

C. These qualities in a herald are still essential today even as they were in 33 A.D.

1. It is the standard for judgment - Jn. 12:48

2. It will never pass away - 1 Pet. 1:24-25

3. It is the source of life - 1 Pet. 1:23

4. We are saved in connection with it - Jas. 1:21

B. To the whole creation.

II. Preach All The Truth

A. Teaching the WHOLE counsel of God - Acts 20:27

1. Truth on every Biblical subject, be it baptism, Lord's Supper, MDR questions, etc.

2. Identifying false teaching and teachers - 1 Tim. 1:20

IV. Preach Heaven And Hell

A. Hell as a place of eternal punishment

1. Prepared for evil ones - Matt. 25:41

2. Realization of God's wrath - 2 Thess. 1:8-9

3. Imagine eternal separation w/no "fun & games" - Acts 16:27

B. The reward of Heaven

Conclusion:

A. The need for saving the souls of the lost is the same today as it was in the first century, except the numbers are so much greater.

B. Just as it takes laborers to harvest the crops in the fields around Salinas, so it is also with the gospel. The harvest truly is ripe, but where are the laborers?

C. Are you ready to GO "PREACH" the good news about Jesus? Let us ALL be committed to giving ourselves to this most noble of all tasks.
