A Journey Through The Halls Of Hell

Lk. 16:25

Introduction:

A.   There are some journeys which I would like very much to take. I would like to go again to Canada. I would like to travel to Australia. They tell me that Alaska is        absolutely beautiful in the summertime. I would like to find out. Someday, I hope to travel to Ireland. There are some other journeys that I would also like to take.

B.   There are conversely some places that I have no desire to visit. Places such as most of the Eastern European countries, the Middle East and Africa hold no interest at all         for me. If the occasion presented itself to take the gospel there, that would be one thing, but I wouldn’t make any plans to visit these places, just to be going.

C.   However, there is one journey which I never want to take - a journey to hell. If you go there you can never return! But just for today, let’s take a journey through the      halls of hell, in our minds eye.

I.    “Am I My Brother’s Keeper?”

      A.   Cain and Abel - Gen. 4:1-12

      B.   Why is Cain in hell?

            1.   Attitude

            2.   Most would expect me to connect Heb. 11:4 with Rom. 10:17 and say that he offered the wrong sacrifice.

            3.   That may be, but why did he offer the wrong sacrifice?

      C.   But we do know that under the Old Law, blood was required for the remission of sins - Heb. 9:22.

      D.   Christ was the supreme sacrifice.

II.   “Let Us In! Let Us In!”

      A.   The story of Noah - Gen. 6-8

      B.   Noah preached for 120 years.

      C.   The people laughed.

      D.   They died; Noah was saved.

III.  A Woman Weeping And Painting Her Face

      A.   Jezebel - 1 Kings 21; 2 Kings 9

            1.   Very wicked woman

            2.   Killed the prophets

      B.   Story of Naboth and his vineyard.

      C.   You cannot fight God and get away with it!

IV.  A Man And Woman Running From Something

      A.   Herod and Herodias (Mark 6:14-29).

      B.   Beheading of John the Baptist.

      C.   Gal. 6:7 - “Whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap”

      D.   Your sin is not as great as theirs!

V.   A Man Washing His Hands

      A.   Pilate - Matt. 27:11-26

      B.   Young people having to fight a fierce battle.

            1.   High school and College.

            2.   Business life

VI.  I Have Betrayed Innocent Blood

      A.   Judas - Matt. 26:14-16; 47-50; 27:3-10

      B.   Christ selected this man himself.

      C.   Loved money so much - he sold his soul for it.

VII. “Brother, Brother”

      A.   Rich man (Lk. 16:19-31).

      B.   Why is he crying?

      C.   People in hell are interested in people on earth.

VII. “Almost, Almost”

      A.   King Agrippa - Acts 26

      B.   Heard the greatest sermon of his life by the Apostle Paul.

      C.   Shook off the feeling and will be lost forever.

Conclusion:

A.   All of these cases are tragic. Yet all of these cases have one thing in common. Those who were lost chose their destination. They chose to do as they pleased in this   life, rather than doing what pleased God.

B.   If this little journey through the halls of hell has gotten you to thinking, then it has accomplished its purpose.
