The Scriptures In Reverse
Matt. 15:1-6
Introduction:
A. In the class this morning we were discussing the traditions
that men have allowed to become more important than the
commands of God. As we look at Matthew 15:1-6, we see the
very idea of the subject in the actions of the Pharisees of
Jesus day. God gave a command, but by their tradition they
made it of no effect. They endeavored to change the
commandment by their tradition.
B. Today, as was the case then, there are many who try to
reverse the order of God's commandments. They do so, not
because they have no respect for God, but because they
respect tradition more.
I. Many Say "Saved By Faith Only" But N. T. Says "Not By Faith
Only"
A. The teaching of men
B. Jas 2:24, 26; Gal. 5:6
II. Men Teach "Repentance Before Faith"
A. In order to justify "Salvation at point of faith"
B. An impossibility - Rom. 10:13-l7
C. Used in scriptures in that order one time and the context
shows clearly the reason - Mk. 1:15
1. To whom talking? Erring Jews
2. Repentance toward whom? Toward God
D. Impossible for the man who does not know either God or
Christ to repent until he has heard of them
III. Salvation Before Baptism
A. Men say "Believe and be saved--baptized if want to"
B. Scriptures say believe, baptized, then saved - Mk 16:16;
Acts 2:38; Gal. 3:26-27; Rom. 6:3-4; Rom. 1:17-18;
Acts 22:16; 1 Pet. 3:20-21
IV.Feeling As An Evidence Of Salvation Instead Of A Result Of
Salvation
A. Jailer - Acts 16:22-34
B. Eunuch - Acts 8:26-39
V. First Christians "Here" instead of Christians (first at
Antioch) - Acts 11:26
A. Name Christian of divine origin - Isa. 62:2; 65:15
B. Bible knows only Christians not this kind or number or
another kind or number
C. All God's children are Christians only
VI. "Me First," Instead Of The Lord First - Matt. 6:33
A. Some brethren put everything before the Lord
B. Seek first kingdom of God
1. Not lodge, show, golf game, or my business
Conclusion:
A. Have you reversed God's order? If so you have made void the
commandment of God (as far as you concerned) - Heb. 5:8-9;
2 Thess. 1:7-9
